I am Md. Tanjil Mahmud Khan, a Civil Engineer and independent researcher with a strong interest in Transportation Engineering, particularly in pavement management, traffic engineering, road safety, urban mobility, and transportation systems. I completed my B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh, where I developed a long-term interest in addressing real-world transportation challenges through research and data-driven analysis.
My research journey began in 2020 with a field-based traffic survey in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, where I studied traffic congestion, vehicle movement, and traffic flow conditions. This experience introduced me to transportation data collection and analysis and strengthened my interest in understanding mobility challenges in rapidly growing cities.
During my undergraduate studies, I conducted my thesis research under the supervision of Dr. Khondhaker Al Momin, currently an Assistant Professor at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, USA. My thesis, “Pavement Management System Using Deflection Prediction Model of Flexible Pavements in Bangladesh,” focused on using pavement deflection prediction to support maintenance planning and improve pavement management decisions.
My research interests have since expanded to include road safety, traffic congestion, public transportation, pavement performance, and sustainable urban transportation. In 2025, I published two peer-reviewed international journal papers as a single author, focusing on transportation challenges in Dhaka, including motorcycle helmet use and the impact of public transportation on traffic congestion.
Through my research experience, I have developed an interest in combining field-based investigation, transportation data analysis, pavement engineering, and practical research to better understand transportation systems and infrastructure performance.
I am currently seeking a fully funded PhD opportunity in Transportation Engineering where I can further develop my research skills and contribute to impactful research in areas such as pavement and infrastructure management, traffic safety, urban mobility, and data-driven transportation solutions.
